2013…The Word?

Hello everyone and Happy 2013!  We’re back from the beach and I’m digging out from under Christmas decorations, new calendars, bills awaiting, and laundry.  Ah, re-entry.  I’ll be catching up on my email and blog reading this weekend, so if I’ve neglected your comments or recent posts, I apologize.  I was under-the-weather a good part of our trip and didn’t read as much as I’d thought I would — lots of sleeping in, chillin’ in Gulf breezes, and football watching instead.

I have been giving some thoughts to my home goals for this year and my goals for this little ‘ole blog.  Sometimes I don’t keep up like I should, and that’s just my life right now.  So I’m trying to reset my thinking on Decor & More and my life in general.  In doing so, I was contemplating my “word” for 2013.  Last year’s word was “balance.”  And while I did constantly strive for balance, I don’t think I quite got there.  It will be something I always shoot for (good thing!), but may be always just beyond my reach.

This year, I’m conflicted.  So I’m going to share both options with you today, hoping that through prayer and contemplation I can land on one to focus on for the coming year. 🙂  Feel free to weigh in…

I initially thought about the word JOY.  I am a perpetually positive person.  That’s just where I camp out — often by choice.

But this fall, especially, I’ve had some challenges and situations in my job that have robbed my joy.

And, trust me, it’s extremely difficult to wrangle 4 year olds without joy.

I miss it.  It fueled me in my teaching and nurturing.

Yes, that’s our crazy crew… no shortage of joy in this photo.  It makes me smile just looking at it.

If I could just capture that feeling in my job again…

The other word I’m considering is DISCERNMENT.

I feel things shifting, crossroads coming.  And I’m feeling the need for clear thinking and discernment in the year ahead, especially with regard to my work life and finances.  I’m so blessed to have a strong marriage I trust and rest in daily.  I just want to have clarity in my thought processes and decisions in other parts of my life.

I don’t want much for the new year, do I? 😉

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing a few more tidbits, winter decorating inspiration, my goals for my home, and some more DIY projects.  I’ll also evaluate how I did on last year’s goals — yikes!!

Now that Christmas decor has started to come down, I’m ready to clean, organize, and re-evaluate my spaces for 2013!  There is an excitement that comes along with this for me… possibilities!!

I’m so blessed to have this little space where I can plot, dream, and share… thank you for being along for the ride!  I appreciate each and every one of you and look forward to a wonderful year ahead!

my word for the year is grease. grease is the word. 😉 ok really i don’t have one…. i am trying to simplify my life a little, so i can’t nail it down with a word.

  3. I’m not much help in picking words. I’m old enough that for me my mind just goes right to “the bird is the word”.
