Boo Y’all {Painted Porch Planter}

A few months ago, I scored a set of four painted distressed rectangular planters and I had an idea (or two) mulling around in my head.  They’re lovely, but I thought how fun it would be to paint a different message on each of them to greet visitors that happen to come to my front door.

Last weekend, I decided to tackle one with a fun fall message:  Boo Y’all. ‘Cuz that’s what we say here in Georgia. :)

This one is a warm creamy color, so it’ll be perfect for my fall front porch!

I played around with different fonts on Microsoft Word and chose Goudy Old Style for this one.  I printed it out and ended up enlarging it slightly on our fax/printer/copier.

I toyed with the idea of using the freezer paper transfer method (you’ve seen this all over Pinterest, I’m sure), but decided to take the plunge and try to free hand it.    I traced it a few times to get the feel for the font and then sketched it in pencil onto the planter.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this, but I wanted an imperfect approximation of the font and definitely achieved it!  There’s something a little freeing about winging it, too. :)   Then I took Plaid craft paint in Black and a small angled shaper brush and went to work.

Again — a masterpiece of imperfect approximation. HA!

But I love it.

What do you think?

Isn’t it fun?  All loaded with a couple of kale plants, tiger pumpkins, and moss (what did we ever do without moss??).

So here you go, for the obligatory before…
